traveling westbound, they're picking up the cones right now. still up, though, in the right lane. so if you stick to the left, things are fine, but volume still pretty light in this area. eastbound, clear outside the beltway on i-66. and no issues as we head inside the beltway. here's a live look as you make your way past spout run parkway. traveling east, you're driving at 61 miles per hour. that drive taking 11 minutes. i'm back in ten. back over to you. we're also following a developing story in that region. u.s. investigators say the attack that killed the u.s. ambassador to libya and three other americans may have been a well-coordinated attack. they suspect the assault on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya, tuesday was planned to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. they just used protests over that anti-muslim video as a cover for their plot. a team of about 40 marines specializing in anti-terrorism

is now in tripoli to beef up security around the u.s. embassy there. meanwhile, the pentagon is moving two warships to the libyan coast. they don't have specific mission but they do give the military more flexibility to launch any mission president obama orders. the president won't say whether he's even considering military action in libya. he does say that justice will be done. >> what we have to do now is to do a full investigation, find out the facts, find out who perpetrated these terrible acts, and bring them to justice. >> the white house says president obama has spoken to the presidents of libya and egypt and urged them to continue working with u.s. to make sure diplomats are safe. the bodies of ambassador chris stevens and three other americans killed with on their way back to the u.s. a must military helicopter left tripoli yesterday with the bodies and arrived in germany before heading to the u.s. other victims who were injured in the attack were also onboard, as were more than two dozen people evacuated from the

consulate. these protest over that internet video are continuing today in the middle east. this is just outside the u.s. embassy in cairo. today's demonstrations are much more subdued than tuesday's when protesters scaled the walls of the complex there and destroyed an american flag. >> the attack in libya is leading to vigils and memorial services around the world. one of those services took place last night just outside the white house. the man who organized it grew up in falls church and took a year off from george mason to become a freedom fighter in libya. stevens is the sixth u.s. ambassador killed on duty. the last one was adolph dubs, who died in afghanistan in 1979. mitt romney is taking heat from his own party even as he tries to refocus on the campaign trail. romney will hold a rally at van dyke park at noon. this comes a day after he called the white house disgraceful for its response to tuesday's attack on the consulate in libya. fellow republicans are distancing themselves from rom

ne -- romney's comments, but he is standing by them. >> the white house appeared to issue an apology for american principles. i believe when a mistake of is made of that significance, you speak out. >> the white house fired back saying it was shocked that romney tried to politicize the attacks. virginia is decision 2012 central today. michelle obama will be in the commonwealth speaking to people in richmond at 2:00 this afternoon. then she'll head to fredericksburg. there she will speak to the campaign's grass roots network at the university of mary washington around 5:00 tonight. the president is setting his sights over winning over some votes in the western swing state. president obama arrived in aurora, colorado, overnight after a campaign speech in las vegas. later today he will speak at a grass roots rally in golden, colorado. golden is located in jefferson county, which helped the president to win in 2008, but was previously considered a red county. that is making it a popular

battleground with both mitt romney and paul ryan having visited in recent weeks. today we will learn just how long the federal reserve expects interest rates to remain at record lows. fed chairman ben bernanke will hold a news conference this afternoon after two days of meetings by the reserve's open market committee. he's expected to announce that interest rates will remain near zero percent into 2015. also in the day ahead, hundreds will gather here in washington to remember the man who took a giant leap for mankind. politicians, space explorers and the public will gatter to honor neil armstrong's life and legacy at 10:00 this morning at the national cathedral. the ceremony will be broadcast live on nasa's and the national cathedral's websites. armstrong died last month at the age of 82. he will be buried at sea tomorrow. local power companies will

i'll give it to you in a minute. >> no, you give it to me now or i'm going to take you to jail. >> well, go ahead. >> okay. >> i fought the law and -- we'll see. a texas woman is accusing police officers of overreacting and injuring her during a routine traffic stop. the police officer pulled 77-year-old lynn bedford over for speeding. she refused to hand over her driver's license, so the officer eventually arrested her. bedford has hired an attorney, but the city of keen is standing by the officer saying he asked her four times for her license and she refused to give it to him. police in los angeles are still searching for two suspects after a bizarre car chase. four men robbed a bank, then hopped in a getaway car. they drove to a local neighborhood and starting throwing the cash out the window. two of the suspects were able to get away as crowds of people

surrounding the car to try and grab some of that money. police eventually caught two of the men. students at a maryland college say they don't feel safe after a shooting on campus. investigators say a man walked on to a campus into the student center at morgan state university, shot a man and then ran off. the victim was shot in the stomach. he is expected to be okay. university officials put the campus on lockdown and sent students a text alert about the shooting. neither the suspect nor the victim is a student there. some students say that is a big problem. >> i don't feel say. i feel like my life could be in danger at any given moment, so i always have to look over my shoulder because you don't know what you could do wrong or how you are approaching someone in this type of environment. even though it's ungated and an open campus and anyone can come on. >> a school spokesman says the university encourages nonstudents to enjoy the campus and its facilities. investigators say there could be possible security video of the

shooter leaving the student center. a 14-year-old boy has won a discrimination lawsuit against a prestigious pennsylvania boarding school that refused to enroll him because he is hiv positive. the milton-hershey school will have to pay the boy and his family $700,000. the school originally refused to admit the honor roll student because they said he would be a threat to the health and safety of other students. the school has since changed their policy on hiv positive students. it will also provide hiv training to students and staffers. chicago mayor rahm emanuel says it is time for the city's 350,000 students to get back into the classroom while the city's teachers union and the school board negotiate a new contract. chicago teachers are striking for a fourth day today. the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement. the impasse remains over a new evaluation process. the union is playing down the chances of a quick resolution.

police busted a booze theft right at new york's jfk airport. officers arrested 15 sky chef employees and three security guards. police say the workers stole 100,000 mini liquor bottles along with duty-free bottles. more than $750,000 worth of liquor and other items. today, new yorkers may have to say goodbye to those super sized drinks. an 11-member panel for the city's board of health expected to vote on a proposed soda ban introduced by mayor michael bloomberg. it would prohibit restaurants, movie theaters and other venues from selling other sodas and sugary beverages in containers that are larger than 16 ounce. it would be the first such ban in the nation. that panel expected to approve the ban. the company that makes so called pink slime plans to launch a defamation lawsuit today. south dakota-based beef products incorporated makes the lean

textured beef product that has been the target of heavy criticism the past year. health officials and chefs have raised concerns about the filler, which is treated with ammonia to kill bacteria. beef products incorporated has long insisted the product is safe and blames the media firestorm for having to close three plants and lay off about 700 people. the defendant in the case is unknown. a new study shows the whooping cough vaccine loses its effectiveness a few years after the final vaccine. keyser permanente says the effectiveness drops by close to 50%. doctors suggest children around 11 or 12 receive a booster shot to help prevent the disease. 44 states and the district have reported increases in whooping cough compared to the same time last period. a new study from taiwan shows people in car accidents are more likely to be using certain psycho tropic medications, that includes sleeping pills, anti-depressants

political fallout from all of these attacks. >> reporter: aaron, let's talk about what the big question here in washington is. what is the response going to be to the killing of four americans in libya, a country where we had developed diplomatic ties. let's take a look at the aftermath of that attack in benghazi. we know a couple of navy wars p warships are being positioned off the coast of libya, not with orders yet. they're waiting to see if anything develops there. president obama spoke with the president of libya last night. and also, of course, all of this comes after and in conjunction with the demonstrations that were going on in cairo. we've seen more of those this morning. in an interview, the president talked about our relationship with cairo and he's been criticized by mitt romney for not doing more. let's listen. >> i don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy.

harrisburg around 2:00. meanwhile, first lady michelle obama will make two stops in the state today campaigning for her husband. mrs. obama will speak to supporters in richmond at the center stage theater at 2:00 this afternoon. then she will head to fredericksburg. there she'll speak to campaign grass roots networks at the university of mary washington. that will be about 5:00 tonight. students in prince george's county are on edge after two of their classmates were killed within three weeks. police are still searching for the killers. on tuesday morning, someone shot and killed markell ross while he walked to school in capital heights. and last month, a gunman shot and killed amber stanley inside her home. both were good students and role models. police say there is no reason to believe the shootings are connected, but some students say they are worried. >> stuff is happening at central. stuff is happening in flowers. all over. it makes each one of us think okay, am i going to be the next person at this school, or that school to die next? >> police do not have a motive for either shooting. police arrested this man,

accused of so called up skirting at the tacoma metro station. police say he videotaped women up their skirts using a hidden camera while asking them for directions. detectives believe there may be more victims, including some younger than 18. if you think you may have been targeted, call tacoma park police. in the days ahead, police will demolish a vacant apartment complex. about 9:00 this morning, crews will start tearing down 26 buildings at the chapel woods apartments in the coral hills area. the move is part of an initiative to fight crime. officials say that area has been a public safety hazard. it is now 5:37. 64 degrees. not feeling so lucky. why this man says he hit the lottery jackpot but never saw a cent of the winnings. plus, why doing a little window shopping could help you find the man of your dreams. >> enjoy the cool, pleasant weather now, because changes are on the horizon. your forecast is next. welcome back. an undumtd immigrant in hyattsville is coming forward to reclaim a lottery prize he says a friend ripped off of him. ramon ortiz says two years ago he bought a $2 maryland scratch-off lottery ticket with a $1 million jackpot. ortiz doesn't speak english and doesn't have a social security number so he couldn't claim the prize himself. ortiz says he asked a legal english speaking co-worker to claim the $450,000 payout. she did claim the prize and kept it. ortiz is now suing that co-worker. a prince william county neighborhood still in shock as two women are behind bars for running an illegal daycare. police say the two women were in

charge of at least 20 kids at a home on abilene way in woodbridge. the women are accused of simply leaving the babies strapped in their car seats during the day. some were placed in a closet and in a bathroom. all of the children were under four years old. >> to hear that a provider was unlicensed with 21 children in their home was very, very shocking to me. so my heart bleeds, because to hear something like that is very shocking. >> now, none of the children was hurt and they were released back to their parents. the two women each faced seven counts of reckless endangerment of a child. this morning a business owner faces charges for selling stolen hair care products. police arrested esther goodwin. officers say they found $20,000 worth of stolen goods when they raided her salon. they believe she placed orders with professional thieves to steal what she wanted. the business is now shut down. d.c. councilmember michael brown's former treasurer is

denying brown's implications that he stole more than $100,000 from his campaign. brown came forward about the missing money earlier this week. he also said he'd fired hakeem sutton as treasurer when he realized most of the money for his campaign was gone. sutton's attorney says his client did not steal anything and even suggested the councilmember used sutton to cover up his own mistakes. brown never actually said sutton stole from the campaign but he says he expects police to file charges in the case soon. some northern virginia residents are a little hesitant about heading down to local ponds or lakes right now, and that's because there's been another rabid beaver attack, the second in two weeks. the latest incident happened at the hidden pond nature center in springfield on saturday. witnesses say there were some children fishing at a competition there when the beaver just showed up. it lunged at a 4-year-old girl. an animal control officer eventually shot and killed the animal. parents in the area say they're avoiding the water for a little while because of these attacks. >> a little nervous and hesitant to go down to the pond.

he's been crying and wanting to go down to the pond, but i'm a little nervous there's rabid animals there. we don't want to encounter another beaver. >> the most recent attacks follow one a couple of weeks ago at lake barekroft. fairfax county police say both of these attacks are extremely rare. it may be frustrating to shell out $40 for a speed camera ticket, but at least now you won't have to worry about late fees. a maryland district judge ordered montgomery county to stop charging the fees. the county had been charging a $25 late fee if drivers didn't pay within 30 days. it's bad news for the county, which made nearly $2 million just in late fees last year. if you try to cheat maryland's tolls by blowing through easy pass lanes, your name could soon end up in the hall of shame. state transportation officials are working to find out if they

can publicize the names of toll cheats and suspend vehicle registrations of repeat offenders. lawmakers are also working on legislation to crack down on drivers who don't pay. earlier this week, "the washington post" reported that nearly 650,000 cars owe nearly $7 million in unpaid tolls. expect some long lines if you're planning to try and hit the jackpot this weekend. maryland live casino opened its second and final phase yesterday. it add more slot machines and electronic table games. a high limit slots room and a 500-seat theater. maryland live the third largest commercial casino in the united states. the casino opened back in june. later this morning, maryland's public service commission will review how well local power companies handled outages after the june derecho. thousands were without power for days after that storm. the panel will hear from pepco, bge among others. the commission set aside time for another hearing tomorrow if they receive enough feedback.

station managers are protesting what they call a pricing scheme by luk oil. they claim they force franchi franchisees to do this. a new report shows the cheapest flights for thanksgiving will go on sale next week. thanksgiving falls on november 22nd, a little more than ten weeks away. farecompare.com reports the cheapest dates to fly are monday before the holiday and on thanksgiving. if you can also save money if you return any day except the sunday or monday after the holiday. frontier airlines is punishing customers who don't use their site to book plane tickets. the airline is limiting benefits to people who buy their tickets on sites like expedia or travelocity. customers who book elsewhere will get fewer frequent flier miles and will have to pay more for flight changes. they also won't be able to pick up their seats until they actually check in. some positive developments this morning related to the

foreclosure crisis. but the good news may be short-lived. >> reporter: banks seized fewer homes, although more homeowners received their first foreclosure notices. realty track, which monitors activities, says the number of foreclosures, auctions and repossession rose since july, but that was down more than 15% from a year ago. activity rose in 20 states led by those that require courts to sign off on foreclosures. illinois ranked highest among state foreclosure rates for the first time since realty track began reporting notices in 2005. and retailers plan to tout bigger is better when it comes to tvs this holiday season. analysts say they'll try to get people to trade in their 42-inch flat screens for larger sets. 60 or even 90 inches. you'll also be able to get those bigger sets at much lower prices than just a few years ago.

and many stores are offering incentives to get you to buy. for example, best buy is providing free delivery and will also pick up those tvs within 30 days if you're not satisfied. amazon is offering what it's calling free enhanced deliver on most tvs 48 inches or larger. customers can schedule their own delivery day, and the amazon shipper will not only deliver it, but they'll unpack it and make sure it's working properly. so they're trying to get with us the good old customer service angle. >> imagine that. that's a throwback definitely, it sounds like. thank you. the holiday season is right around the corner and that means looking for the most popular toys of the season. >> i can't think about holiday shopping yet. toys 'r' us is helping customers make sure they don't lose out on picking up the must-have toys this year. the retail giant is adding a hot toy reservation system which will let customers receive e-mails when they can pick up the toys in the stores.
